Project Type

Academic Group Project (Team of 4)

This project, undertaken as part of an entrepreneurial brief, focused on redesigning campus merchandise at UAL’s London College of Communication (LCC) to foster a deeper sense of belonging among students. By addressing gaps in affordability, representation, and inclusivity, the project aimed to create merchandise that resonates with the diverse and vibrant campus community.

The decision to focus on stickers as a core element of the redesigned campus merchandise came from both research insights and the versatility of stickers as a product. With their high impact and low cost, stickers proved to be an effective way to foster a sense of belonging and create lasting emotional connections within the campus community.

Why Stickers?

Insights from the WIP show

The Work-in-Progress (WIP) show midway through the project provided valuable feedback and inspiration from LCC students. Their input, alongside quick sketches and doodles created during the show, visually captured their emotions and ideas about LCC. This feedback directly influenced the design phase, ensuring the final merchandise resonated deeply with the community.

Ideation & Prototyping

Using mood boards and sketches, we explored motifs that represented LCC’s identity, focusing on vibrant and bold themes like graffiti and student life. Eco-friendly materials were sourced for prototype development, which was carried out using UAL’s printing services and precision laser cutting.

Final Design

The result was a line of eco-friendly, student-designed stickers that captured the cultural and artistic essence of LCC. Stickers were priced affordably, starting at 20p, with bundle deals to increase accessibility. The designs reflected the diversity and creativity of the LCC community, making them a source of pride for students.
